Layer 2 (L2)

A network built on top of a base chain to make transactions faster and cheaper.

A layer-2 processes transactions off the main chain and settles back to it, inheriting much of the base chain's security while lowering fees and increasing speed.

Many airdrops have rewarded early activity on new layer-2 networks, which is why bridging and using an L2 often appears in eligibility criteria.
